A New Way to Heal from Trauma
Living with PTSD can be exhausting. Hypervigilance, emotional dysregulation, intrusive thoughts, and feeling disconnected from your own life are all signs that your brain’s stress response is stuck. Talk therapy and medication help many people, but they are not enough for everyone.
At Interventional Psychiatry of Philadelphia, we offer PRISM neurofeedback Treatment. Prism is an FDA-approved, non-invasive treatment that targets the neurological roots of PTSD through interactive brain training. It does not require you to revisit or retell your trauma.
What is Prism?
Neurofeedback treatment involves wearing a comfortable EEG headset while watching a video on a screen. The headset records your brain activity throughout the session and your provider uses that data to inform your treatment.
Prism takes this a step further by making the experience interactive. Rather than passively watching a video, the scene on screen actually changes in real time based on what your brain is doing, similar to a video game. This gives you immediate feedback on whether the mental strategies you are using are working, turning each session into an active and personalized training experience.

What a Session Looks Like
Each session lasts approximately 30 minutes. You wear a soft EEG headset while seated in front of a screen. The Prism software displays an animated scene, and the characters respond directly to your brain’s stress activity in real time. As your stress levels decrease, the scene calms. You are not watching a video — you are training your brain by seeing the results of your own mental effort as they happen.
Treatment Plan
A full course consists of one pre-training session followed by 15 treatment sessions, held twice per week over approximately two months.
Why Prism is Different
FDA Approved
Most neurofeedback systems have no FDA approval. PRISM has FDA approval for PTSD and FDA exemption for depression, providing regulatory validation that other systems lack.
Treats All PTSD Clusters
PTSD presents differently across patients. Prism is designed to treat all PTSD symptom clusters, including intrusive symptoms, avoidance, hyperarousal, and negative shifts in mood and cognition.
No Trauma Re-Exposure Required
Sessions do not involve discussing, revisiting, or reliving traumatic events. Prism works at the neurological level, making it accessible to patients who are not ready for or have not responded to exposure-based approaches.
Real Time Results
Prism does not use a fixed program. The feedback is live and specific to your brain's activity. You are an active participant and the system responds to you in real time.
Is Prism Neurofeedback Right for You?
Prism may be a good fit if you are living with PTSD or emotional dysregulation and are looking for a treatment that does not involve medication side effects or trauma re-exposure. It is appropriate for patients whose PTSD stems from any source including military service, assault, accidents, illness, or childhood trauma.
Prism can be used alongside existing medications or therapy and does not require you to stop any current treatment. Your provider will evaluate your history and symptoms to determine whether it is the right addition to your care plan.
